Eating Committee set off on a fine-weathered Saturday. First stop - bacalao empanandas! And pork pinchos, too. Just behind the Andrew Freedman Home on Walton and McClellan. Carlos is there most days, you should stop by.

Kathleena Howie-Garcia and and friends put the birds in Bird, Plant & Fish Committee on Sunday, May 6 during Bronx Children’s Museum’s Family Day. Someone put in a fish and a bat too. And a dragonfly.

Reading-Discussion Committee

Reading-Discussion Committee

Reading-Discussion Committee, Saturday May 5, 2pm
As part of the Reading-Discussion Committee, we would like to invite you to a reading of two stories which were published in the Andrew Freedman House Journals in the 1960’s. After the reading, we will encourage discussion as well as spontaneous story-telling of significant past memories which elevate the mind and the soul.
The first reading will be from one of the Andrew Freedman house residents who had met Albert Einstein in 1916.
The second story will be from a Nazi camp refugee in 1939.

Laura and I did a recruitment walk in the Andrew Freedman Home neighborhood which is the community I grew up in. Three of the children live in the same building where my parents still live and the other three children were spotted on the next block playing basketball- using the fire escape ladder as hoops. We got written and verbal permission from the kids’ parents and off we went to form the Game Committee! - CJH
